The events of 11 September 2001 suggested that both Government and local responders needed to plan for events on a previously unimagined scale. A direct consequence was the creation of the London Resilience Team.

The London Resilience Team mission statement

'To ensure that in the event of an emergency, the response from all concerned will be quick and effective, with the result that lives are saved, and the impact on property and the environment is minimised.'

The current setup grew out of the earlier team that carried out the initial assessment of London's preparedness. The team has a permanent core of civil servants who are supported by specialists seconded from partner organisations, together they provide a unique combination of expertise.

The London Resilience Team acts as secretariat to the Forum

The team is based within the Government Office for London. It currently has members from:

  • The Metropolitan Police Service
  • The British Transport Police
  • The City of London Police
  • The London Fire Brigade
  • The London Ambulance Service
  • The National Health Service
  • The Greater London Authority
  • Transport for London
  • London Underground
  • London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA)
  • British Red Cross
  • Department for Transport
  • London Councils

The UK Resilience website exists to provide a resource for civil protection practitioners, supporting the work which goes on across the UK to improve emergency preparedness.
